The treatment of age-related macular degeneration poses one of the most significant problems in modern-day ophthalmology. With an aging population this problem will gain even greater weight in the future. EUGENDA was founded to find answers to important questions regarding the development and therapy of age-related macular degeneration.

The EUGENDA database was officially opened on November 30, 2009 in Cologne by Prof. Pinkwart (the Forschungsminister of Nordrhein-Westfalen) and the Dutch politician Mrs. J. Schermers.
